"I recently decided to shop around for car insurance because my renewal with Allstate was coming up. I was quoted a policy with State Farm that was about $25 less per month than what I was paying, which sounded great. The process was smooth at first — the representatives were kind, courteous, and very helpful. They collected my payment and officially started my policy, which made everything seem finalized and set. However, four days later, I received a call from the State Farm office informing me that they could not honor the original quote because something showed up on my motor vehicle record. As a result, my premium increased by nearly $100 more per month than the original quote. This was a major and unexpected change. Because I had already canceled my Allstate policy based on the quote State Farm provided, I had to scramble to get reinstated. Unfortunately, Allstate could not recover my previous rate, and I ended up paying about $50 more per month than I would have originally — all because I was trying to save around $20–$25 by switching. After requesting a refund for the full amount, I was told that it likely would not go through since I technically had coverage during that time. I understand that coverage was active, but given the inconvenience and the financial impact this situation caused, I believe it would have been courteous to at least offer a full refund. While the customer service representatives were polite and professional throughout the process, the pricing adjustment after the policy had already started created a frustrating situation that ultimately left me worse off financially. Overall, the staff was friendly, but the pricing process, timing, and handling of the refund made this a disappointing experience."
